The Walk: A circular walk around the Farlington Peninsula, jutting out into Langstone Harbour.
Map
NB The map shows my GPS track, with various diversions and excursions which you may not wish to follow precisely.
Why do it: Views across Langstone Harbour. Birdlife of the Farlington Marshes Nature Reserve. At high tide, waders and widlfowl are driven off the foreshore onto the lagoons. The extensive reed beds are one of the best locations for sightings of bearded tits. In winter, short-eared owls are frequent visitors, and large flocks of Brent geese may be seen grazing the fields.
Distance: 4 miles
Logistics: Park in one of the car parks along the access road heading East from the A2030 roundabout. There is one at the end of the road, next to reserve entrance.
Challenges: Mud in winter,e specially on paths other than the sea wall. Proximity on the Northern side to the noisy A27 (the route avoids the worst by taking the footpath across the North of the reserve, rather than the track right beside the A27).
Refreshments: None.
