The walk: The walk starts from the Gosport Diving Museum, enters and crosses the Browndown military range, then follows the coastal path along the Solent to Warsash, using the beach as much as possible.
Map
NB The map shows my GPS track, with various diversions and excursions which you may not wish to follow precisely.
Why do it: Lunar landscape of the Browndown military range. Seaside fun at Lee-on-the-Solent. Bird watching at Tichfield Haven RSPB Nature Reserve. Remote-feeling beach backed by low cliffs leading into Southampton Water and the lower reaches of the River Hamble.
Distance: 10 miles
Logistics: Park in the car park next to the Diving Museum (charge). Return from Warsash by bus (X5 Solent Ranger).
Challenges:
Browndown Military Range is only open to the public on certain days (otherwise the path follows roads inland). Open days are limited - mainly school holidays and a few weekends I think - check online.
Beaches will be covered in places at high tide, so do the walk around low tide, or else follow the adjacent official coast path.
Refreshments: Cafe next to the car park. Plenty of options on Lee seafront. Pubs in Hill Head and Warsash. (The cafe at RSPB Titchfield Haven seems to be closed in 2023.)
Nearby Walks
To the West: Bursledon to Woolston
To The East: Eastney to Hillsea
Also, Cycle Ride around Portsmouth Harbour, including Gosport and Portchester Roman Fort
