Hastings to Rye via East Hill, Fairlight and the Beach

The Walk : In a previous blog, I described a walk from Hastings to Pett Level via 'The Glens', which requires climbing down into and out of three steep sided valleys. This is tiring and also quite challenging after rain, when the paths become muddy and slippery. The current walk takes a less hilly route around the head of these valleys, and uses the energy saved to complete a walk along the beach from Cliff End (or Pett Level village) to Rye Harbour. Camber Sands to Dungeness via Lydd Ranges coast track

The Walk : This walk is only possible when the MOD Lydd Range has a 'no-firing' day and the red flags are down. We walk along the huge Camber Sands Beach to Jury's Gap. We then access the Range coastal track and beach normally out of bounds to the public, and walk all the way to the Nuclear Power Stations on the shingle headland at Dungeness. North Downs Way: Capel-le-Ferne to Dover

The Walk :From Folkestone, we rejoin the NDW where we left off , at the Battle of Britain Memorial in Capel-le-Ferne. This final section of the NDW from Farnham is a bracing clifftop walk, with views down to the Warren undercliff, sliced through by the Folkestone to Dover railway. Atop Abbots Cliff, we look down on Samphire Hoe, the area of land created with the spoil from the Channel Tunnel, and beyond it, Dover Harbour comes into view. After a final climb around the old fortifications on the Western Heights, we finally arrive at journey's end, the official finish (start?) of the North Downs Way on Dover sea front.
